Etchings of Velebit
Etchings in glass, metal, 2022.
In Etchings of Velebit, the shadows from the mountain extend along the surface of the wall. The mountains represent a projection of an ideal form beyond the reality that reaches our sensory perceptions. 'Via negativa' is a theological method, where knowledge of the Absolute is unattainable, and contemplation focuses on what things are NOT. The laser-etched glass plates transform the printing process and create contrasts of opacity on a transparent surface, where bright areas do not allow light to pass through, much like the negative on a film. The shadows on the wall depict the mythical mountain range Velebit, an Olympic site in the cultural imagination of Croatia.
