The Dark Room
Gerlesborgsskolan Gallery, Stockholm
2019.
Through a seemingly insignificant little hole, light infiltrates the dark room, casting its glow on the opposite side and conjuring an image. In the brilliance of light, a mere 4-second exposure suffices, but under different lighting conditions, the light is permitted to weave its way through for 4 minutes... 7 minutes... 16 minutes. The subjects either exist or come into existence during the duration of the photograph's creation. This extended timeframe allows for reflection and analysis, a gradual integration into the evolving image. The wind seizes the opportunity to tousle hair, and water rushes by with fleeting haste. Shadows from the foliage engage in a dance, while the ground beneath their feet appears to be caught in a gentle spin.
